Roadside Attractions Book
A California wildflower excursion for your bookshelf
Roadside Attractions is a series of photographs taken at the start of wildflower season in California. All photos were digitally captured along the same stretch of roadway in San Francisco. The title of the book is intended to reference a field guide one might take on a roadtrip or hike when seeking to learn and discover new things.
All images were inkjet printed onto Mohawk Recycled Color Copy paper. Endsheets are inkjet prints on Neenah Paper Company’s Desert Storm paper. The book is handsewn with undyed and unbleached linen thread waxed with beeswax. The book has a hardcover case with an orange book cloth spine and hand-patterned pastepapers to decorate the cover.
The book contains 76 pages, including endsheets. Pastepaper covers are made from a mixture of acrylic paint and methyl cellulose on Neenah Paper Company’s Desert Storm paper. Pastepapers have varying brown, pink, and green coloring* meant to be an abstract representation of the pavement and florals that are encountered in real life.
*Creating pastepapers is a unique process and no two book covers are identical.
